Cherry FAQ

Who or what is Cherry?
Cherry is a star of a series of comics for adults only. She's the cute, sexy, blonde white gir; of your dreams, if you happen to have those kinds of dreams. Cherry Comics have the look of any one of the teen comics that proliferated in the sixties, which were all about boys chasing girls, girls chasing boys, always with an undercurrent of sex which was never even really mentioned, let alone consummated. In Cherry Comics, the sex has been brought up to the surface, till it's right in your face. Yes, we are talking full frontal nudity and penetration. Heavy doses of satire & parody are also thrown in. Cherry Comics poses the question: What if sex was actually fun & didn't have to always be accompanied by guilt, fear & violence?

Where can i get Cherry Comics?
Good question, and good luck.

When is the next one coming out?
When the moon is in the seventh house & Jupiter aligns with Mars...

Why does it take so long?
Cherry was never intended to be a periodical. It was originally conceived as a one-off, and that took years to complete. It was a good idea that i had, that i didn't really have all of the stuff to pull it off, like the right kind of jokes and plots just popping outof my head at regular intervals, the ability to just dash off a proportionally & anatomically correct drawing of a cute sexy naked girl without having to erase it about 50 times & start over, low enough standards of what would be acceptable (good drawing, funny jokes, satirical content) to go ahead & crank out just anything that would sell....stuff like that. So iI actually have to suffer over every story in every issue, trying to do something a little different, maybe even a little better. If I could be content with having Cherry be just a fuck book, with more of the same shit every time, a lot of my readers would be a lot happier, and i would be a lot richer. Which sounds like a lazy fuck's copout in the name of "integrity", and I suppose there is a bit of that going on, too. I do have other ideas for comics and other kinds of art that i would like to pursue, i even have what I laughingly refer to as "a life". I may be an obsessed artistt, however, my obsession is not exclusive to turning out more and more Cherry comics. If I was just greedy enough and arrogant enough, or a completely dysfunctional twisted maladjusted "genius" (like the Great and Powerful R. Crumb), hell, I'd be a millionaire by now. Wouldn't you?

Did Archie Comics give you any shit?
Yes.

Is there going to be a Cherry movie?
Not soon. If at all. It was annouced that there was going to be one in an issue of Cherry when the creator was suffering from delusions of being able to trust people who were full of shit. He got better later.

Why can't Cherry seem to get any respect?
This question is frequently asked by the creator. Many Cherry readers genuinely enjoy the comics, but they don't want their wives to know about it. So they won't admit to it in public. Some people seem to think that Cherry is somehow dangerous. Cherry has been deemed politically incorrect by those who think they know more about such than you or I and wantto control what others may be allowed to look at, read and posess. It's true! Here we are, trying to create a perfect world, and the fascists are still here with us, trying to cram their version down our throughts. Can you beleive it?

Why doesn't Cherry take a stand on AIDS and nasty shit like that?
Cherry is intended to be a funny, light-hearted book. (We used to call them 'funny books') It's a depiction of a fantasy world where sex has no serious consequences, there is no disease, and nobody ever gets pregnant unless it's really funny. If all of a sudden Cherry became some kind of spokesperson for, or against, or about the all-too-real threat of sexually transmitted diseases, it seems like it would kind of deflate the whole upbeat fantasy aspect of the books and become preachy. The staff of Cherry comics is truly concerned about the nasty side effects of love, sex and death, and we like to think that most of our readers can tell the difference between a black and white comic book and Reality. Cherry does have some things to tell you, but she generally doesn't preach them right in your face.

What is Welz's problem, anyway?
Well, the mood swings and chronic fits of depression don't help much. Other than that, he's just a lazy fuck who's never satisfied with anything.

Who is the real cherry?
Cherry is the maiden aspect of the Goddess (there's the Maiden, the Matron, and the Crone), so she's everywhere all the time. She's everything you ever liked about any woman you ever knew. That friend of yours who swears that she is the inspiration for Cherry is right. They're all right.
